Summer solstice and International Day of Yoga

This weekend marks two special days, the summer solstice on 20 June, and International Day of Yoga on the 21st. The former dates back millennia, whereas the latter only started in 2015.

The idea of an International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on 27 September 2014. He stated:

"Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being".

So, my idea was to prepare a double-whammy for you. One to celebrate the solstice and one to celebrate yoga day, but as they say, "Man proposes, God disposes", meaning that things got in the way despite my best intentions and I currently have no video(s) for you. The major impediment has been atrocious back pain, but now that I am feeling better I hope to get at least one version of Surya Namaskar (Sun salutation) to you ASAP (after all, what better way of celebrating the summer solstice?).

Thank you for your patience. NAMASTE.
